about

The words of this song are pretty much an exact description of one Saturday morning when I was at home alone with my daughter Laurel (who was about 4 at the time but is now 16, holy shit), and we were stacking firewood.

We had a morning tea break, and sat on the deck, me with my coffee, Laurel with her chocolate milk (actually it was caramel milk, but that didn't fit the song quite so well), and It was a really nice time together. Somehow this song came out of it.

My son is standing behind me as I write this, so I don't want him to think that the same song couldn't have been written about him. Sorry Theo!!

Musically, I had bought a programme that is more used for electronic, dance kinds of music ('Reason'), so perversely I thought I'd use it for the backing. Everything except the guitar comes from that.

I quite like the darker middle section, and the rambling end which was totally unplanned, just playing unconsidered notes after the song had finished. I am also fond of the rhythm, a lot of which is either alternating bars of 6/8 and 7/8, or maybe it's just in 13/8, I'm not sure how to define it.
